Work Stress / High Achievers
Does this sound like you: You are driven to do more and be better, and when you have free time, you’re still thinking about everything you need to do. You feel the moral imperative to do work that aligns with your values, but your sense of responsibility is leaving you burnt out. Your inner critic is loud inside, and you don’t even notice because that voice is ever-present, humming along in the background. You want to leave your job, but you worked so hard to get here, and the thought of what to do next is overwhelming.
When any of the above shows up, distracting and escapist behaviors often increase as well. The stress created in the system looks for a pressure release—video games, an extra drink, scrolling. You start to blame these behaviors for diverting you from your goals, when in actuality, they’re trying to help—numb, take you out, shut down—in the only way they know how to deal with all of the pressure.
My approach to supporting you includes both a personal and systemic lens. We look at the parts of you that are managing and controlling, as well as avoiding and distracting. And we also look at the messaging that has been internalized inside of you: the impacts of capitalism and inequity, as well as the financial anxieties and insecurities that are often rooted in class, immigration history, and intergenerational trauma.
I’ve worked with doctors, immigration attorneys, transformative justice leaders, organizers and activists, executive directors, and many tech workers to alleviate internal stresses, make external changes, and find a more balanced and easeful relationship to work.
